This energetic painting of Madonna and Child was rendered in bright yellows, golds, and greens. The artist indicated that he was strongly affected by Chinese influences when creating this piece. Canvas is hand-stretched on a wood frame. Signed and dated on the back. An original short story always accompanies Francisco's paintings, and this one is no exception.

Francisco Juan Casabal Sastre, a native Argentinan, lives in Dallas, and is best known for his paintings on canvas. He is a very accomplished trompe l'oeil artist as well, and you can see evidence of his work on walls, furniture--anything with a surface! His work has a definite Argentine flavor, but he draws inspiration from around the world, especially India, Egypt, China, Mexico, and Italy. Rich color, metallic paint, and age-old symbolism are hallmarks of his work.
